Meet Our Team
Dr. Gillian Yeates
Dr. Gillian Yeates has been practicing general obstetrics and gynecology at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital since 2000. Serving the women of the Georgian Bay area, she has a special interest in urinary incontinence and pelvic floor prolapse. Obstetrically, she provides vaginal breech delivery services in efforts to keep Cesarean section rates low, while providing safe deliveries. Fertility services include investigations, ovulation induction and tubal reversals.

Dr. Yeates grew up in Brampton, Ontario. She graduated cum laude from Harvard University concentrating in Biology. She attended medical school at Dalhousie University in Halifax. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at London's University of Western Ontario. Since obtaining her fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada she has been living and working in Collingwood with her husband and two children.
Dr. Sharon O'Brien
Dr. Sharon O'Brien is from St. John's Newfoundland. She attended medical school in Newfoundland at MUN and did her Obstetrical residency in Toronto with additional training in High Risk Obstetrics. She had a busy practice in Toronto for 30 years. She started working at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital in 2019 and joined as a full time member of the Obstetrics team in 2022.
Sharon has been skiing and cycling in Collingwood for many years so working in this community was a natural fit. Her areas of special interest include Obstetrics, substance use disorders in pregnancy and menopause.
Dr. Melanie Zimmermann
Dr. Melanie Zimmermann has been practicing general obstetrics and gynecology in Barrie, ON for the last 6 years. She is thrilled to be moving her family and medical practice to Collingwood
in the summer of 2024.
She enjoys practicing the full range of general gynecology, with a focus on medical management of gynecologic issues as well as offering minimally invasive surgical options.
For obstetrical patients, she is happy to provide patient centered care in addition to a full range of delivery options including forceps, vacuum, and vaginal breech deliveries when appropriate.
Dr. Zimmermann completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto in the Immunology Specialty Program, with a minor in Anthropology. She then attended the Michael
G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton. She then completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Western University in London and became a Fellow ofthe Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in 2018.
